The Global Press Archive Charter Alliance is an initiative by East View Information Services and the Center for Research Libraries to develop a special series of thematically designed collections to meet the priorities of the CRL members. Launched in 2018 as a sub-component of the broader Global Press Archive [1], the Charter Alliance will culminate in the creation of nine collections, encompassing hundreds of newspaper titles, totaling over 4.5 million pages. A successful academic-commercial partnership, the Global Press Archive Charter Alliance serves the shared values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and continues to extend access to global newspaper collections to the widest possible audience. 

Thus far, the Alliance has published four open-access collections, including: 

• Late Qing and Republican-Era Chinese Newspapers [2]
• Middle Eastern and North African Newspapers [3]
• Independent and Revolutionary Mexican Newspapers [4]
• Imperial Russian Newspapers [5]

Two forthcoming open-access collections remain, one focused on Southeast Asia. In addition to the Alliance’s open-access collections, CRL members will have access to three collections of in-copyright newspapers from the Middle East and North Africa, which is available now, and Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, which are forthcoming.
