Middle East & African Newsstream

This digital collection (formerly Middle East Newsstand) provides access to the current content and past few decades of more than 150 news sources from across the Arab World, Israel, Southwest Asia, and Africa.  Product coverage includes newspapers,wire feeds, trade journals, and select additional sources. Content is represented in English and French (Arabic sources are not included).

International Newsstream

International Newsstream (formerly ProQuest International Newsstand) offers access to current and recent retrospective content for more than 8000 news sources from outside the U.S. and Canada, including prominent titles such as The Bangkok Post, El Norte, Financial Times, The Guardian, Jerusalem Post, South China Morning Post, The Daily Telegraph, Asian Wall Street Journal, and the BBC Monitoring series for various world regions. Subscribing libraries can also select individual titles or a customized group.

L'Harmathèque

L’Harmathèque's platform offers a large volume of content in the form of ebooks, articles, videos, and audio recordings on many subjects in the humanities and social sciences. Independent Voices

Independent Voices, the initial collection offered by Reveal Digital (a limited liability company based in Ann Arbor, MI), is a set of digitized U.S. newspapers, journals, and magazines originally published by the alternative press during the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

Digitization of the collection is financed through tiered contributions from participating libraries over four years (2013 to 2017). The collection is available only to subscribers during the funding/digitization campaign, and for a two-year embargo period thereafter. Following this period, the collection reportedly will become open access if the funding threshold is achieved.

Stalin Digital Archive

The Stalin Digital Archive (SDA) is planned to encompass almost 400,000 pages of unpublished materials from the archives of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, a central figure in Soviet and 20th-century world events. Items selected include personal correspondence, memoranda, log books, and internal reports. It also will include 25 monographs from the Annals of Communism (AOC) series from Yale University Press, providing translations of several hundred primary source documents, which will be presented in cross-searchable e-book format.

American Indian Histories and Cultures

American Indian Histories and Cultures, scheduled for release in fall 2013, will present material from the Newberry Library’s Edward E. Ayer Collection, an extensive archival collection on American Indian history. The content ranges from early contacts with European settlers through the expanded occupation of the American west, up through the Indian political movements of the mid-20th century. The collection covers a wide geographic area with a primary focus on North America and Mexico. This digital resource will complement The American West, an earlier digital collection from Adam Matthew compiled from the Newberry Library’s Everett D. Graff Collection of Western Americana.

The Chatham House Online Archive

Since its founding in 1920 as the Royal Institute of International Affairs, London-based Chatham House has been a leading center for policy research on international affairs. In 2013, an online searchable database integrating a large extent of Chatham House’s publications and archives was made available for the first time. Gale Cengage released the first module of The Chatham House Online Archive, covering the years 1920–79, in 2013. The second module, covering the years 1980–2010, is slated for release in late spring 2014.

Verfasser-Datenbank

Launched in 2012, Verfasser-Datenbank (Database of Authors) features articles on literary authors in the German-speaking world from the Middle Ages to present. The database combines four literary studies reference works for a total of over 20,000 articles: Die deutsche Literatur des Mittelalters, Deutscher Humanismus 1480-1520, Frühe Neuzeit in Deutschland 1520-1620, and the Killy-Literaturlexikon.

Verfasser-Datenbank is intended to be updated regularly, with ongoing revision of Literatur des Mittelalters (German Literature of the Middle Ages) overseen by an academic advisory board. Confidential Print series

Adam Matthew Digital Collections has released four collections in the Confidential Print series. These collections are full-text searchable databases of British Government documents generated by the Foreign and Colonial Offices based in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and North America from 1820 to 1970. All items marked “Confidential Print” were printed and circulated immediately to leading officials in the Foreign Office, to the Cabinet, and to heads of British missions abroad. These materials range from letters or telegrams to comprehensive dispatches, investigative reports, and texts of treaties.

Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS), 1957-1994

Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS), 1957-1994, released by Readex (a division of NewsBank) in 2011, is an English-language archive of translations of foreign scientific, technical, and social science materials. Produced by the U.S. Joint Publications Research Service, a government agency that translates a range of foreign-language materials, JPRS includes monographs, reports, serials, journal and newspaper articles, and radio and television broadcasts from around the world. JPRS is also the largest single producer of English language translations in the world and has generated four million pages from more than 130,000 reports.

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports, 1941-1974 and 1974-1996, and the Daily Report Annexes, 1974-1996, released by Readex (a division of NewsBank) in 2007, is an electronic collection of the daily reports originally issued by the FBIS in paper and microform. The reports include selected news bulletins and editorials, speeches, briefings, interviews, and policy papers gleaned from radio and television broadcasts and news services in approximately 100 countries throughout the world. Collected and translated into English by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the texts are largely from sources in regions of American strategic interest during the period.

World Biographical Information System (WBIS) Online

The microfiche edition of K. G. Saur's Biographical Archives has been digitized and issued as a group of  databases known as the World Biographical Information System (WBIS) Online. Reference works including biographical lexicons, encyclopedias, and monographs dating from the 16th century through the 1990s are the sources of biographical entries and articles on more than five million people from various countries from the 4th millennium B.C. to the late 20th century.

The Current Digest of the Chinese Press

Like its older sibling, Current Digest of the Russian Press, this weekly serial publication launched early in 2012 (after a pilot issue in August 2011) provides English translations of timely articles selected from domestic Chinese news publications. The digital archive from East View contains 373 issues dating from 2011 to the present. 

East View reports that the archive will grow with ongoing subscription and is hosted on East View's Universal Database platform.
