Africa Commons is a project which aims to enable Africa to easily control, digitize, and disseminate its cultural heritage–within Africa, and internationally. Digital repatriation efforts will make Africa Commons available for free to all African institutions, and Coheret Digital is also opening the resource to HCBUs in North America.  This far, our platform includes:

Global Press Archive CRL Alliance Phase 2

Launched in 2018 by East View Information Services and the Center for Research Libraries, Phase 1 of the Global Press Archive CRL Alliance developed a series of thematically designed newspaper collections to meet the priorities of CRL members. Phase 1 of the CRL Alliance will features hundreds of titles across nine thematic collections (six of which are completely open-access totaling 4.5 million pages of content.

Granth Sanjeevan

Granth Sanjeevan provides access to over 25 million pages of digitized material from The Asiatic Society of Mumbai.  The collections include digitized copies of old and rare books from the 15th Century onwards, newspapers like Bombay Chronicle, Bombay Times and others, manuscripts, journals, maps and government publications. 

The Japan News

The Japan News provides access to the English-language daily from the publisher The Yomiuri Shimbun.  Hosted on the Global Press Archive platform, this newspaper archive includes over 27,251 issues covering the period of 1955-present.  

Slovo Kyrgyzstana Digital Archive

Slovo Kyrgyzstana Digital Archive provides access to the Russian-language newspaper with over 120,000 pages and includes all obtainable issues of the newspaper’s previous titles form the period of 1925-present.

Slovo Kyrgyzstan went through various title changes and was known as Batratskaia Pravda (March-June 1925), Krest’ianskii put’ (1925-1927), and Sovetskaia Kirgiziia (1927-1991).

American Historical Periodicals from the American Antiquarian Society, Series 1-6

American Historical Periodicals from the American Antiquarian Society, Series 1-6 provides access to periodicals that highlight that history of the Colonial Americans in the twentieth century.  The periodicals were predominantly published in the U.S., Canada, and by Americans living abroad

Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection: Series 2

Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection Series 2 provides access to rare manuscripts, books by Latino-Hispanic Americans, and historical newspapers. The archive contains over 250,000 pages of personal and organizational manuscripts, over 3,000 issues of rare historical newspapers and periodicals, and more.  Content available is written in 80% Spanish and 20% English.

Global Press Archive

The Global Press Archive is an initiative by East View Information Services in partnership with Stanford University Libraries and the Hoover Institution Library & Archives to digitize over 2,000 predominantly foreign-language newspaper titles ranging in coverage from the late 19th Century to present times. 

Launched in 2016, the Global Press Archive features stand-alone titles and databases aggregating multiple titles from specific regions and time periods, and includes over 1,500 newspapers, 450,000 issues, and 4.7 million pages of content, with 17 countries and 12 languages represented. Most Global Press Alliance titles have been released on East View’...

Amateur Newspapers from the American Antiquarian Society

Amateur Newspapers from the American Antiquarian Society provides access to amateur publications that were written, edited, and published primarily by young people, aged 12-20, during the second half of the 19th century.  This collection comprises of 3,000 titles and includes editorials, original short fiction, essays, poetry, and more.
