log in or sign upOrbis is the flagship product of BvD, it is a database of information and data on approximately 275 million companies worldwide, with an emphasis on private company information.
The Orbis database features data on approximately 275 million companies worldwide, representing both public and private organizations. According to the provider and users of the resource, the primary focus of the data is on private companies. Company information covers: financial strength metrics and projected financials, associated news and independent research, global M&A deals, marine vessels data, ESG reputation risk ratings and metrics, public tenders data, public interest entities (PIEs), patents and intellectual property, and royalty agreements.

Subscribers can either choose to access the entire Orbis database or to use certain subsections that focus on company size or regional coverage. Regional options include: Orbis Europe, Orbis Americas, and Orbis Asia Pacific. There are 54,025,913 North American companies represented in the resource.
Users can utilize the Orbis data to research individual companies or groups of companies, search for companies by profile, and analyze and evaluate companies. On a granular level, the database contains:
Subscription to Orbis includes access to 10 years of historical data, more historical data is available through a subscription to Orbis Historical.
Orbis is accessible through the BvD interface. Orbis data can be queried and accessed through simple or sophisticated searches of the platform, and is accessible on PCs, tablets and mobile devices. The company reports are presented in a detailed, standardized format and are the same as the reports in BVD regional products, Amadeus and Oriana. Data can be downloaded and exported into various formats.
In 2016, BvD released their current interface, developed as a result of to customer research and testing. BvD describes the new interface as having a simplistic screen and navigation bar to reduce clutter and improve focus. The platform includes a tools zone for pivot analysis, zones for searches, results, reports, exports, alerts, integration and customization. Included with the BvD toolkit are add on templates for Excel and PowerPoint to facilitate analysis and presentation. The toolkit also helps users to integrate information with internal systems and workflows such as: intranets or CRM systems.
Orbis is also is available through the Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS).
Bureau van Dijk has a partnership with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania to provide access to Orbis and Amadeus through Wharton's WRDS platform.
