ICPSR is a membership organization, based at the University of Michigan, that maintains an on-line repository and archive of social science data and statistics from commercial and non-commercial sources, and provides services and training for social science researchers, curators and data analysts.

ICPSR was established in 1962 at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research by political scientist Warren E. Miller as the data dissemination arm of the American National Election Studies (ANESi). ICPSR is supported by funds from the University of Michigan, annual subscription revenues from its member institutions, fees for training and educational activities, and grants from the federal government and private foundations.
ICPSR is an international consortium whose members include more than 700 academic institutions and research organizations. It is governed by the ICPSR Council, a twelve-person body elected by the members of ICPSR.
ICPSR datasets and other archived content are available, via the web, on a subscriotion basis to members of the ICPSR consortium.
