Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America is a large scholarly association with over 26,000 members in 100 countries. MLA host an annual convention and other meetings and sustain a wide-ranging print and electronic publishing program that includes books, journals, style guides, and an international bibliography.

The American Economic Association is a learned society in the field of economics, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.  It was established in 1885 in Saratoga, New York. Once composed primarily of college and university teachers of economics, the Association now attracts an increasing number of members from business and professional groups. It publishes one of the most prestigious academic journals in economics: the American Economic Review.

The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) is a scholarly, non-political, non-profit professional association open to all persons interested in Asia. The society has approximately 8,000 members worldwide. AAS produces the Bibliography of Asian Studies, the Journal of Asian Studies (JAS), and select books, monographs, and occasional paper series.

The American Chemical Society is a US-based, "congressionally chartered independent membership organization that represents professionals at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry and sciences that involve chemistry."  Members are in academia, government and industry, and from medicine, engineering, agriculture, and related chemical and pharamaceutical businesses and industries.
