log in or sign upPart of the World Newspaper Archive, created by CRL in partnership with Readex, African Newspapers, Series 1, 1800-1922 provides access to almost 70 newspapers published between 1800 and 1922 in Sub-Saharan Africa. Content features English- and foreign-language titles from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
African Newspapers, Series 1, 1800-1922 was released in 2012 as the second collection module of the World Newspaper Archive, produced by CRL in partnership with Readex, a division of NewsBank. This collection provides access to more than 40 fully searchable African newspaper titles, published between 1800 and 1922. African Newspapers features titles from Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Languages include English, German, French, Portuguese, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho, and others.
Titles were recommended by WNA Charter Participants, faculty members, and subject experts from the Cooperative Africana Materials Project (CAMP). The final material was selected for its breadth of coverage, diversity of viewpoints, and historical significance. Titles include such key publications as:
