This archival digital collection, covering the years 1986-2012, is intended to complement other NewsVault archives collections.
Launched in 1986, this daily national newspaper positions itself as the only British paper not aligned with a particular political party. The paper is in tabloid form (having originated as a broadsheet). Until 2011 it carried the statement “free from party political bias, free from proprietorial influence” on its masthead.1 It received the British National Newspaper of the Year award in 2004.
The source format is a mixture of microfilm and born digital. It is estimated to total around 500,000 pages, and will launch in spring 2014.
Delivery
The content will be searchable through the Newsvault platform along with other newspapers from the publisher; it will also have its own interface.
Strengths and Weaknesses
It will be useful to make the full archive of this relatively new newspaper title available online.
