    Oxford Islamic Studies Online is a resource which brings together the best current scholarship in the field, and promotes accurate and informed understanding of the Islamic world.    Including over 3,000 A-Z reference entries, chapters from scholarly and introductory works, Qur'anic materials, and primary sources, this resource will be of interest to a wide audience.

    Full Text Linking

    This resource is compliant with the OpenURL standard and supports mediated linking.

    Federated Searching

    This resource does not support the Z39.50 protocol, but can be accessed by federated search software and supports the method="get".

    The base URL for federated searching is:

    http://www.oxfordislamicstudies.com/search/quick?_fmt=context &_refinePage=%2Fsearch%2Fadvanced_search.jsp&

    Search terms are added to the base URL introduced with 'text=', and are separated by '+'. For example:

    text=+pillars+islam

    Metadata Standards

    The data conforms to the XML 1.0 standard.

    Marc Records

    MARC 21 records are available for download.

    Search Options

    There are 10 main topics and over 30 subtopics which can be used to refine a search. There are also six specialised search options:

    • biography search
    • image search
    • primary source search
    • bibliography search
    • Qur'an search
    • concordance search

    Post Search Options

    Users can:

    • print entries
    • refine results for most content by topic, era, or geographic region
    • search and browse results, and articles
    • email results
    • cite entries in Modern Language Association (MLA), and Chicago format
    • export citations using EndNote, ProCite, ReferenceManager, and RefWorks

    Usage Statistics

    ICOLC compliant statistics are available.

    Authentication

    Authentication is via the UK Access Management Federation, Athens, and IP address range.

    Accessibility

    This resource meets level 2 of the WAI guidelines.
