SA Media is a news clipping service covering South African news resources.  SA Media database covers more than 120 South African periodicals and newspapers from 1977 onwards,

SA Media was originally created and maintained by the University of the Free State (Bloemfontein, South Africa). The news clipping service added more than 100,000 articles annually covering all aspects of South African society and Africa at large (including agriculture, arts, defense , economics, education, foreign affairs, government health, housing, labor, media, political affaris, religion, sport and tourism). UFS ceased adding articles as of December 31, 2014. Sabinet resumed the clipping service June 1, 2015 -- thus, no articles for the period 1 January 2015 to 31 May 2015 are included in SA Media at present.

SA Media comprises the original SA Media archive covering 1977 to December 2014--containing reportedly over four million articles--and the "new" SA Media database covering 40 mainstream publications (see title list). Sabinet projects that the database will grow by an average 2,000 articles weekly. Sabinet reports there is approximately a two-week delay between the newspaper publication dates and the date on which the articles from these newspapers are loaded into SA Media.

    Delivery

SA Media is provided through the Sabinet Reference platform. Articles are available through full-text search (all articles were processed through OCR in 2013), with index terms also assigned to each article. Articles are delivered as PDF files with full OCR. Full-color images and photographs have been included in high resolution since 2015.
