The WorldPop project was initiated in 2013 to produce detailed and freely-available population distribution and composition maps for the whole of Central and South America, Africa and Asia. In order to accomplish this, WorldPop has constructed a GIS-linked database of census and official population estimate data, targeting the most recent and spatially detailed datasets available.
WorldPop Data can be accessed through several methods using the WorldPop Data portal: quick search, a data list, the map selector, and the beta data portal (a demonstration application allowing users to view and create custom downloads of sample WorldPop population datasets).
