Newspapers

Part of the World Newspaper Archive, created by CRL in partnership with Readex, Latin American Newspapers, Series 1 & 2 (1805-1922) provides access to key historical newspapers published in Latin America and the Caribbean between 1805 and 1922. Coverage features significant titles from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, and elsewhere.

Part of the World Newspaper Archive, created by CRL in partnership with Readex, African Newspapers, Series 1, 1800-1922 provides access to almost 70 newspapers published between 1800 and 1922 in Sub-Saharan Africa. Content features English- and foreign-language titles from countries including Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The World Newspaper Archive is the product of a collaboration between CRL libraries and Readex,a division of NewsBank, to preserve and provide persistent access to historical newspapers from around the globe.

CRL members support WNA through purchase of individual modules. To date, the WNA includes the following collections or "modules":

The World News Connection (WNC) contains English-language transcriptions of news articles from selected non-U.S. sources, generated by the U.S. Open Source Center. WNC began distribution in 1995 as a successor product to the Foreign Broadcast Information Service Daily Reports. The service was discontinued on December 31, 2013.

The WNC offered by East View Information Services offers access to 856,013 items dating from 1995 to 2013. The archive is full-image with fully searchable text. 

The Times Digital Archive 1785-2012 provides access to full-text facsimile of the historical newspaper the Times (London).

17th and 18th Century Burney Newspapers Collection provides access to seventeenth and eighteenth century English news media available from the British Library and includes more than 1,000 pamphlets, proclamations, newsbooks and newspapers from the period. 

ProQuest Historical Newspapers is a definitive, historical newspaper archive and includes  The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian  and The Observer, The Irish Times  and other leading American,m British and Irish titles of broad research importance.    ProQuest Historical Newspapers is available as a subscription or perpetual purchase.

British Online Archives: Twentieth Century Political History is a thematic series contained as a sub-set within the digitized archival content known as British Online Archives (BOA), distributed by Microform Academic Publishers (MAP). 

Nineteenth Century UK Periodicals Online, I: Women's, Children's, Humour, Leisure provides access to full text of 100 titles and 1.2 million pages from periodicals published in the UK between 1800 and 1900. The resource also offers an extensive library of newly captured images.

As part of  the JISC Digitisation Programme,  this resource has over 3 million pages from approx. 70 national and regional newspapers in 19th Century British Library Newspapers Parts 1 and 2.
